Testimonials

Doing global research with a strong sensitivity for local differences is notoriously hard to pull off. STBY created the Reach Network for global design research to do this research in a new way, and delaO design studio is the Mexican partner in this 18 country network. José’s team ran two projects with STBY for a major global player in audio streaming services.

Every step along the way, José and his team were very reliable, collaborative and creative in their excellent work. Being global and Mexican at the same time is a strong force of the studio, and that is exactly what is needed in working for cutting edge global players.
— Bas Raijmakers, Creative Director & Co-Founder / STBY

José de la O is one of the most proactive designers in Mexico today.

His way of approaching problems, with research and analysis, generates feasible, harmonious and functional design solutions. I admire their range of action: their studio is able to rethink crafts and tradition, while developing projects associated with cutting-edge technologies and scientific data.

His work is undoubtedly an example of what Mexico should be in matters of design: contemporaneity and tradition meet the handmade and the industrial, all in the same proposal.
— Ana Elena Mallet / design curator

With José de la O, at the Tecnológico de Monterrey we have had the opportunity to carry out academic projects of great impact for society, institutions, companies, & partners where the academic platform becomes a great experimental laboratory without limits.

José has been a source of inspiration as a teacher, to create projects that challenge our imagination of the future.
— Ramiro Estrada Sainz MDP, Regional Dean / National School of Architecture, Art and Design, Tecnológico de Monterrey

For What Design Can Do it is important that we can build our programs with proper and sound research. We want to be credible and knowledgable.

For that reason we work with people like Jose de la O: Design researchers that deliver in depth insights in what is happening around pressing societal and environmental issues. In Mexico and around the globe. For that reason I hope to maintain our collaboration in many projects to come.
— Richard van der Laken, founder & creative director / What Design Can Do

Working with De la O Design Studio allowed us to give us a guide on how to approach a mass product development project, justifying each creative, productive and commercial decision with information that led us to a impactful project for our clients.
— Joel Escalona, Partner / Etienne Escalona

delaO design studio not only undertook to solve the service and operation challenges, but also undertook the task of understanding the origin and nature of the project, and involved us in the design processes so that the service experience of both the operator and the customer was satisfied.

The result is incredibly beautiful, eye-catching, and functional. Our beloved Caravanas today had delivered more than 15 thousand cups of coffee from small producers and have brought their stories to many customers.
— Rosa Elena Cantu / Unico Valerica /Caravana

José de la O was one of the first workshop presenters we had representing Mexico at our conference. He brought a fresh perspective on looking at the optimistic future ideas through dystopian lenses.

His studio is one of the only ones in Mexico heralding the Critical Design practice using physical products to provoke implications of future technology, political and social structures and how they are influenced and impacted by the Mexican culture
— Phil Balagtas, Founder / The Design Futures Initiative/Speculative Futures/PRIMER conference

Working with José and his team is always a pleasant experience.

From the timely detection that they made of the product typology to analyzing trends and behaviors and the assimilation and adaptation of the final concept, to the multiple iterations that arise during the design process, the delaO design studio is always one step ahead.
— Adolfo Navarro, Creative Director / Lo Escencial

Being able to use design tools in multidisciplinary teams is not always the simplest, but the delaO team has the experience and ideal toolkits to carry out workshops with strong results in collaboration with our clients.
— Jorge Diego Etienne, partner / Etienne Escalona

Jose was a key figure to unlock the contemporary Mexican culture during the Cross Cultural Chairs research phase. Following a unique investigation process, he helped me to understand the local context from very diverse points of view.

We had deep conversations in between some “tacos” and several “chelas” about “cholombians”, techno-cumbia and a Mexican Vernacular approach.
— Matteo Guarnaccia / Cross Cultural Chairs

Los Patrones is characterized by working from Mexico, with Mexican materials and together with Mexican designers who have a global vision of design. In this aspect, having worked with José has been very gratifying both in commercial projects, as well as in international projects of a more academic nature.
— Adrián Marfil, Lead Designer & Co-Founder / Los Patrones
