Distant Chair

Distant Chair

Objects can be mediums of communication. Mostly for non verbal communication. With this in mind, how can technology enhance a regular object to make it a platform of emotional communication for digital devices? Kartell Mexico asked Studio José de la O to do an intervention on one of its products. The Louie Ghost has been chosen for its translucency.  Ten photo-resistors where attached on specific places on the chair. Al of these light sensitive sensors are connected to a small micro-controller placed in front of the chair. This micro-controller interprets the different readings, capturing the posture of the person seating on the chair. Different postures are translated in different amounts of light that the chair receives. All this data can be captured when the chair is connected to a computer where the information can be translated on a meaningful interactive graphic.
