NUEVA QWERTY 2023

THE NUEVA QWERTY KEYBOARD

We are thrilled to announce that delaO Design Studio has been commissioned to create a “diegetic prototype” for the upcoming exhibition "Eso es la vida/This is life: Graphic Design from Mexico."

As a central highlight of the exhibition, delaO Design Studio's contribution revolves around the NUEVA QWERTY project (2017). This innovative alphabet was specifically designed to provide a more efficient way of communication for individuals with dyslexia or ADD on digital platforms. By merging similar phonemes, eliminating tildes and and removing "mute" characters, this visionary alphabet speculates on how the Spanish language could evolve in a future where digital platforms dominate communication.

This fictional keyboard serves as a keepsake from a world where people use this fictional alphabet, compressing the Spanish alphabet from 27 letters down to just 19.

The exhibition promises to be exceptional, delving into the rich history and contemporary developments of Mexican graphic design while exploring its profound influence on popular culture. Visitors will be treated to an impressive array of works, including historic posters, typography, sign painting, as well as digital and video media, all of which highlight the vital role of visual communication in our daily lives.
