Love Jewels

Love Jewels

Using brainwaves related to romantic love used to design a piece of jewelry. delaO design studio and Mirai Innovation Labs, generated an experiment to see if the brainwaves related to romantic love could be used to design a piece of jewelry. By using Aura, an Electroencephalogram technology developed by Mirai Innovations, a person could change the shape of a piece of jewelry by being exposed to images of the person’s loved one. The shape of the object is modified according to the analysis of the components on the frequency in the alpha and beta bands of the electroencephalogram signals that respond to visual stimuli of familiarity in the presented images. The object was entirely designed algorithmically. By using generative design software, the jewelry piece can change its shape by receiving feedback from Aura.

On the 12th of February, a couple in a romantic relationship, and with no design experience, was invited to be part of the experiment. While using Aura, the subject,, was exposed to images, portraits of the subject’s romantic partner. As the subject would concentrate on each images, the alpha and beta frequencies would change the length, hight and thickness of the digital shape in real time.
